We are proud to be the only paramedic service in Wellington and Wairarapa region, and the only ones in the country who are free.

As well as providing the emergency ambulance service for Greater Wellington and Wairarapa we also provide patient transfer services, a clinical communications centre answering calls to 111 and event medical services across the region.   Each year we respond to over 53,000 calls for help across the community.

The role

We are looking for dedicated professionals trained to independently assess, treat, and transport patients, administering a range of treatments including oral and intramuscular medicines.

We're excited to offer two permanent full-time positions as we continue to work to meet growing demand.

As an EMT, you will ensure the highest standards of patient care, consistently delivering efficient, effective, and professional services. You will provide leadership within your EMT Authority to Practice, exemplifying professionalism and clinical excellence in every situation and interaction.

You will work across the Wellington Free Ambulance region and although initially you will predominately work as part of Patient Transfer Services, you may be deployed to one or more of the following Business Units within the Operations Group, following induction:

  • Emergency Ambulance Services
  • Patient Transfer Services

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Who we are looking for

    To be successful in this role, you must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and demonstrate patient-centred professional clinical practice. You should have the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

    You will also have:

  • A recognized ambulance qualification to at least a Level 5 Ambulance Diploma or equivalent (this is essential)
  • Hold a current full clean New Zealand driver’s license
  • Successfully completed a defensive driving course
